Verizon announces the cameraless Motorola RIZR Z6cx

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

I’m surprised about this new Verizon phone, almost all phones that I know of come with a camera, whether it is a good or a bad one is another story. A camera on a cell phone is usually very useful and fun to play around with, however, this new phone doesn’t seem to come with a camera. Basically, this phone is an addition of their popular Motorola RIZR Z6. The weird thing is that it comes with less features than the Z6c, which is basically the lack of the camera.

So far, this phone has already gone live up on the Verizon Wireless site, but there’s not too much of a difference between this phone and its brother, the Z6c. It has been reported that all the “x” on the Motorola RIZR Z6cx stands for is no camera. Also, this might just be Motorola’s way of appealing to those companies that do not allow their employees to carry phones. The standing price of the Motorola RIZR Z6cx is $179.99 dollars, which if course is after rebates and including a contract.

Oh sure, iPods have found their way outside of our atmosphere before, but there’s just something magical about spotting one front and (off) center on the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Dollars to donuts it’s perpetually repeating the discography of Air.

Asus M536: The Magic Of Touch!

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Something that most Asus fans would wish for is here at last. The M536 comes with a touch screen as well as a QWERTY keyboard. It runs on frequency bands of 900/1800/1900 for GPS carriers and 2100/1900/850 with 3.6 Mbps HSPDA.It works on Windows Mobile 6.1 platform and has 256 MB of flash memory. The screen is a typical Asus wonder, measuring 2.43 inches; it supports resolutions of up to 320×320. Now that’s a perfect square for a change. The M536 also comes with support for 802.11 Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity. It’s got a lot that one would seek in a business phone.

The first new $5 bill was issued by the Federal Reserve

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Federal Reserve banks will begin distributing the redesigned $5 bills to customer banks, which will then distribute them to businesses and consumers. The new $5 bill designs will circulate first in the U.S. and gradually spread to other countries as international banks place orders for them from the Federal Reserve. You don’t have to trade in your old bills for new ones. Both the new $5 bills and the older-design $5 bills will continue to maintain their full face value.

The new $5 bill incorporates new security features:

Watermarks: There are now two watermarks on the redesigned $5 bill. A large number “5″ watermark is located in a blank space to the right of the portrait replacing the previous watermark portrait of President Lincoln found on the older-design $5 bills. A second watermark – a column of three smaller “5″s – has been added to the new $5 bill design and is positioned to the left of the portrait.

Security Thread: The embedded security thread runs vertically and is now located to the right of the portrait on the redesigned $5 bill. The letters “USA” followed by the number “5″ in an alternating pattern are visible along the thread from both sides of the bill. The thread glows blue when held under ultraviolet light.

Asus EP20, the overlooked CeBIT desktop Eee announcement

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

It seems with all the excitement surrounding the Eee PC 900, Asus had also introduced their desktop Eee PC, the EP20. We first heard rumors of this back in November, sadly it does not seem like it was worth the wait.

So far just a few details that have emerged, what we can tell you is the EP20 will feature a 1.87 GHz Intel dual core processor and include a standard 2.5-inch hard drive as opposed to the SSD’s in the Eee PC notebook. No mention of the storage size for that hard drive or any RAM amount. Also, while their has not been any confirmation, it is expected to be running the same modified version of Linux as the Eee PC notebook lineup.

The EP20 is expected to retail for 200€ (around $312 US). And perhaps best of all, according to Asus the EP20 will be quiet and also offer “good enough performance.”

Keep reading for a few more pictures of the EP20…

Japan’s Shougaku Ichinensei mag bundles “finger piano” for kids

Face it, Japan is just cooler than you are. You have a job and a car, Japan? Japan has finger pianos bundled as freebies with manga-centric magazines for 1st graders. You lose. And by “finger piano” we really mean finger piano. Check out the video after the break for a better idea, but basically you mount a sensor onto each finger and plunk away — the circuit bending potential is immense.

Brando’s portable USB mouse speaker looks like, feels like, but isn’t really a mouse

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

The point of anything that doesn’t work as advertised always evades me, and the case of this USB mouse speaker is no exception. Worth $14 and an ounce of your patience, Brando’s USB mouse speaker will play music from any ipod, PC, laptop, CD player, mobile phone or any other compatible sound source via a standard 3.5mm plug. It has a handy switch for turning it On/Off, as well as for adjusting the volume. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers it, and a complimentary neck strap is even included in the box for added “convenience” and “portability”. It’s got the basic features of your average portable speaker covered so far, but one thing it doesn’t do it act as a real computer mouse. I guess the exterior was done all in the name of style, then. If you can call its violet “headlights” stylish.
