Philips makes the Xenium 9@9j official

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

While there still is not a price to be found, the 9@9j has been officially released and with that comes the full list of specs. Of course we have already seen the unique battery system. The 9@9j contains a standard Li-Ion battery that offers 8 hours of talk time and 1 month of standby and a single AAA battery that serves as a backup and offers up to 2 hours of additional talk time and up to one week of standby time.

As for the rest of the specs; the 9@9j features Quad band GSM (900/1800/1900/850 MHz)/GPRS connectivity, a 1.3-megapixel camera, a microSD card slot, USB 1.1, stereo Bluetooth A2DP support, an FM radio and a 176 x 220 color TFT display.

The 9@9j has been release (as of now) only in the Asian market. No word if or when this will ever be available elsewhere. The whole backup AAA battery option seems like something that could easily be adopted into other cell phones.

Multimedia Watch has 8GB of storage and a 1.8-inch screen, won’t impress the ladies

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

In an age where everyone carries cell phones, I tend to wonder why people still wear watches. I’m sure that not everyone wants to pull out their phone whenever they want to know the time, so I guess I can understand. I’m perfectly content with looking at my phone or ipod, so I rarely even consider putting on a watch. If I’m going somewhere important I might put on my trusty pocket watch which was a gift from my wife so I don’t look like a huge dork every time I whip out my iPod to check the time. Somehow I don’t think that putting on this new 8GB Multimedia Watch would make me look like any less of a dork.

Since the days of Dick Tracy people have envisioned watches that can do just about everything. I’ve begun to wonder if I’m the only tech geek that really doesn’t have any desire to have a giant screen attached to my wrist. I keep my phone and iPod Touch carefully hidden away so that I don’t look like a complete dork at all times. However, if you don’t mind carrying around a 1.8-inch screen, you’ll get a massive array of features including 20fps video playback, 8GB of storage and an mp3 player. I think it might even tell you the time. While the giant screen might weigh down your arm, it won’t break your bank with its $86 price tag.

Extremely stylish USB flash drive

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Nowadays the fact that an USB flash drive has very high data transfer rate is not enough to make customers buy it. In case producers want their products to be sold, something really special that can attract attention should be designed. Moreover the demand for an USB will be increased if it performs not just a single function.

Gresso company, which generally produces exclusive cell phones and mp3 players, took into consideration both of these points. So, its new gadget represents a well-designed USB flash drive and serves not just as data storage but as an adornment as well. There are three different types of this concept: in the form of an apple, of a cross and a classic rectangular form. Devices, which are made of wood, are decorated with 14-carat gold and Swarovski crystals. However, if you want to store a lot of information on this gadget you will hardly be able to do so, because its maximum memory size is just 1GB. Despite small capacity of this concept its price will varies from 100 to 1000 US dollars. Probably it will depend on the amount of gold and diamonds that decorate one or another device.

Thus, Gresso company again succeeded in designing something unusual and original. Given gadget most likely will be very popular among young people, because it can help them to add something really new to their style. Yet price and memory size of this USB leave much to be desired.

An “edible” message

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Sometimes we feel the necessity to leave a message to the members of our family in order to remind about something, give some instructions or just say endearing words. In such situations everybody finds different solution: some use just a sheet of paper and put it on the place where it can be easily seen, others buy special tables, which are generally attached to refrigerators or walls, and etc.

Yet, a new method, which helps to make your message more original, has been recently found. The given gadget is designed to write messages on toasts. Quite an unusual message, isn’t it? Moreover, the process of writing itself becomes more pleasant and interesting. The only thing you have to do is to take a special pen and to write on the toaster whatever you want. After that your message will be printed on the toast. That’s it.

Thus, this gadget can be considered as a very useful one, because you prepare food and write messages at the same time. Besides that, children will love it for sure. It will be a sort of amusement for them. However, it should be mentioned that the size of the message is very limited, preventing you from writing “poems”. Though, it can be used for fun.

Springflex UB exercise machine

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

The latest media statistics show that “four in five of all U.S. adults—or an estimated 178 million people—go online”, and the local TV news station has also stated that there is a new wave among teenagers, where driving-aged teens are delaying their license application and driving lessons just because they want to remain connected to their friends through the virtual world as well as blog online. Further data from the IDC shows that “the average internet user spends 32.7 hours per week on the internet”. Average that out and you get 4.67 hours a day, so you can imagine just how many hours a blogger spends in front of that radiation emitting screen. All the time spent sitting in front of the computer does not bode well for the human body, mainly because of the lack of exercise and poor posture that seems to be a problem for most people, which will result in carpal tunnel syndrome eventually. Enter the Springflex UB device.

The Springflex UB offers way more freedom to perform various exercise routines in order to avoid picking up a variety of repetitive strain injuries (RSI), as it helps you move around much more often that you normally do in addition to lowering the dangers of sedentary computer use, lowered metabolism and weight gain. This is because with the Springflex attached to your desk, you will be able to perform your workout right there and then without packing your bags and heading off to the local gym.

There are over 120 exercises that can be performed with the Springflex UB in order for you to further tone and firm your upper body. Too bad there is no add on for the lower body, but hey - women love nothing but a nice, large pair of biceps as well as drooling over those pecs. Guess reading Coolest gadgets won’t be such a fattening experience any more, is it? I just wonder what your colleagues have to say about this - unless it is an office-wide policy to install the Springflex UB in each and every single desk, chances are the majority won’t want such a distraction, especially if you tend to carry around a strong BO where a whiff of it is enough to send the nearest skunk packing, tail between its legs.

Teclast T50 PMP

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

At present many people prefer portable media players like MP4 players to MP3 players because they allow you not to just listen to the music but watch clips and movies as well. The variety of them is no smaller than that of MP3 players, so new models, performing even more functions, appear everyday. Another novelty of this kind Teclast T50 has been just designed.

The Teclast T50 portable media player might not have arrived on the scene with a bang, unlike those well-known iPods, but this model sure adds something that the majority of its competitors do not have at the moment - a capacitive multitouch display. Unfortunately, the only available information about the T50 includes the aforementioned display, RVVB, FLV and dual independent audio processors. But it’s quite enough to form a general idea of the gadget that seems to be very competitive. As regards the design of the concept I think that it looks great. The main reason for this consists in the fact that due to the touch-sensitive screen given device has just a single button and a big display.

Thus, this gadget looks like one of those easy-to-operate devices, from using which you derive a great enjoyment. Yet the lack of the information gives no opportunity to form a clear picture of this concept. But soon you will be able to find everything out, in case it arrives to the USA and Europe.

Transcend announces new USB flash drive, the JetFlash V60

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

My 2GB USB drive works just fine for my purposes, but in case you need a lot of size, then you might want to consider this new 32GB flash drive by Transcend.

Dubbed the JetFlash V60, it sports a size similar to that of a AA battery - so it’s pretty small and easy to take places. Additionally, it comes with a whole slew of features integrated into it, such as Website AutoLogin, PC-Lock, Mobile Favorites, Secret-Zip encryption, Data Backup and Online Update. It works well with both Windows and Mac, and it even works with Linux.

So far, no word on availability, but expect it to retail for about $194, which isn’t too bad considering its storage capabilities.

35mm slide viewer hacked to enhance iPod nano viewing

If you just so happen to have a spare 35mm slide viewer gathering all sorts of dust in your basement and one of Apple’s latest nanos, we’ve discovered a perfect way to spend your weekend and exercise your DIY muscle. Granted, the Nanoscope has been around the block a time or two, but that doesn’t weaken its geek factor one iota. Essentially, you simply modify said viewer to accommodate the nano, add in a set of speakers and kick back to enjoy your stored movie files in larger-than-originally-intended fashion. Really, it’s way cooler than it sounds — check out the video after the jump.
